Autonomous Pallet-handling Robot
The ability to automatically recogniz- e, localize and interact with pallets is a critical task that is frequently needed in logistics processes. This is because pallets are present in large quantities throughout warehouses and distribution centers.
Moreover, they are often the carrier for goods that need to be transported. Therefore, automated pallet handling systems are becoming increasingly common in logistics processes. The main goal of these systems is to increase warehouse effi- ciency and productivity.

One example of such a system is the 3D pallet shuttle system by Megvii Automation & Robotics, which was launched in 2022. The system uses a distributed control architecture and intelligent software empowered by AI to allow for higher capacity, better space utilization and lower energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

Other examples of such systems are SCARA-type palletizers. These robots use a compliant or flexible arm that is attached to an end-of-arm-tool (EOAT). The arm typically allows only rotational movement for the tool, but can be designed to permit other movements as well. These types of robotic palletizers are usually more complex and faster than Cartesian robots, owing to their greater range of unrestricted movement.
